We're Working to Help Residents Find Health Insurance

Home Forward is one of 31 organizations to be awarded a grant from the Oregon Health Authority on behalf of Cover Oregon to help people enroll in health insurance through Cover Oregon.

Cover Oregon is a new online marketplace where individuals, families and small businesses can shop for private health insurance and enroll in the Oregon Health Plan or Healthy Kids.

Home Forward Can Help Another 55 Homeless Veterans

Home Forward has received an additional 55 HUD Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD VASH) rental vouchers that provide homeless vets with a permanent, affordable place to call home.

The award, which represents $349,483 in annual rent assistance, brings the total HUD VASH vouchers the agency administers to 360.  The vouchers are paired with comprehensive case management and clinical services from the Veterans Administration,  which refers vets to Home Forward for the rent assistance.

National Initiative to Change Perceptions of Public Housing Launches

A national industry group is challenging Americans to question their sometimes negative perceptions about public housing.  Research conducted earlier this year revealed that the overwhelming majority of Americans believe U.S. citizens deserve a safe and decent place to live.  Yet most of those surveyed do not support public housing in their own neighborhoods, nor do they want to live near a public housing unit.

For the second year running, KaBOOM!, the national non-profit organization dedicated to giving kids the childhood they deserve by bringing play to those who need it most, has selected a Home Forward apartment community for a playground build.  This year's build is in conjunction with Foresters, a life insurance provider committed to the well-being of families.

New Community-Wide Plan to Address Homelessness Adopted

Building on the success of the original 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness, Home Forward joined the City of Portland, Multnomah County and a host of leaders, policy makers, and stakeholders to create a new framework for tackling homelessness.  The framework was recently adopted by commissioners at the city, county and Home Forward.

Colored Pencils logoThe talents of New Columbia residents will be on display at a Colored Pencils Art and Culture Night on Friday, April 26.  The event is being held at the New Columbia Community Education Center, 4625 N. Trenton, Portland, 97203.  The evening kicks off at 5:30 p.m.
