Summer Jobs Program a Success

The results are in:  more than 75 percent of the 25 youth from Home Forward's housing programs who participated in a regional summer employment program emerged "work ready" when evaluated against a comprehensive set of criteria by their employers.

Draft Annual Plan Available for Review

Review Our Draft Annual Plan

Each year Home Forward creates an annual plan as part of its participation in the federal Moving to Work program.  The plan presents policy changes the agency would like to make using its MTW deregulation status.  The draft of the upcoming annual plan now is available for review and comment.  New activities include:

Community Cycling Center Receives Grant for Bike Hub at New Columbia

Bike Skills Park Coming to New Columbia

New Columbia residents and neighbors are the beneficiaries of work the Community Cycling Center is doing to broaden access to bicycling and spark initiatives to help families become more active.  The nonprofit has received a $10,000 grant from a national coalition of bicycle retailers and suppliers to build a bike skills park and bike hub in one of the last two undeveloped lots at New Columbia.

Jerry Walker Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Jerry Walker with awardThe Business Diversity Institute honored Home Forward's Jerry Walker, program director for economic equity, with their first ever Lifetime Achievement Award.  The award was presented during the 2011 Minority Enterprise Development Week in recognition of Jerry's lifelong commitment to service, social justice, and economic equity.  

Home Forward Wins HUD Support for Hiring Residents

HUD Grant Will Aid Hiring Residents

Home Forward was one of 12 out out of a field of 85 housing authorities nationwide to receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to increase hiring of low-income individuals.  The agency will use the $50,000 award to help fund its activites in support of these goals.
