Rockwood Park Build Postponed

schematic of park at SnowCapUpate 10/16/13:  The park planting volunteer event scheduled for Saturday, October 19 has been postponed so that prep work at the site can be completed.  We will post the new planting date as soon as it's available.

Volunteers are needed to help create a community park in Rockwood.  Home Forward has partnered with SnowCap Community Charities to create a park on the dirt lot adjacent to the non-profit, transforming the area into a clean and safe environment in which families can gather and children can play.

The 1.25 acre park will have a nature play area, benches and tables, lighting and a sprinkler system.

With the help of donor partners, the lot has been prepared for planting by pulling stumps and trenching for lighting and irrigation.  On planting day, volunteers will be building a small fence, planting, laying gravel and spreading grass seed.  SnowCap volunteers will be providing breakfast and lunch for the workers.

Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m., with work starting at 10 a.m.  A dedication and blessing will take place at 3 p.m.  Volunteers may work the entire day or just part of it.  Please contact Betty Dominguez at for more information.

SnowCap is a philanthropic organization created to provide food, clothing, advocacy, and other services to the poor.  It is located at 17805 SE Stark St., Portland.
